Video: Pilafs in Tashkent
Family Pilaf. How Uzbek Families Cook Pilaf
Pilaf does not require highly qualified cooks in snow-white caps to be made and expensive restaurants to be tasted. In Uzbekistan pilaf is a usual family dish, prepared with the participation of all family members, women cutting onion and carrot into thin slices, children helping and men acting as chefs in this operation. Be sure to see this video telling how to cook pilaf, the main dish of the Uzbek kitchen. The video demonstrates how to cook pilaf at home, how to fry meat and onion, how much salt to put and even how to ‘throw’ the pilaf onto a plate.
In the second part of the video you can see a pilaf for a thousand guests - a gigantic kazan (cauldron) containing an enormous quantity of rice and large pieces of meat, each about 1 kg.
