Video: Nowruz in Uzbekistan
Nowruz (also spelled Nawruz, Navruz, Novruz) - the ancient Oriental New Year holiday, a holiday of warmth and new life, is celebrated in Uzbekistan on March 21, on the day of spring equinox. Today Nowruz is one of the major state holidays in Uzbekistan. The people thoroughly prepare for it beforehand: clean the streets, homes and their hearts, cook traditional Nowruz dishes. They believe that the way they celebrate Nowruz influences their lives through the whole year to follow. Hence, they try to have as much fun as possible on the holiday, organizing mass outdoor activities with songs, dances, fun games, various contests and competitions attracting very many spectators. The spring air seems to be saturated with people’s new hopes on Nowruz. We would like to share some of Nowruz joyous atmosphere with you in this short and vivid film.
