Stunning Dinosaur Plateau in the Koytendag Mountains of Turkmenistan
Countries: | Turkmenistan
Tour duration: | 6 days / 5 nights
Itinerary: | Ashgabat – Kerki – Koyten – Kerki – Ashgabat |
Turkmenistan is rich not only in unique ancient architectural monuments, but also in impressive natural sites that have no analogues on the planet. One such place is the Dinosaur Plateau in the Kugitang Mountains in eastern Turkmenistan. The world's largest collection of dinosaur footprints in a single location has been discovered there – around 3000 footprints of Megalosaurs, Iguanodons and Tyrannosaurs. Scientists have also found 31 dinosaur trackways, and the longest one is 311 metres, a world record. In addition, footprints of not only dinosaurs but also human-like creatures have been found on the plateau, raising many questions and hypotheses.
During this tour we will visit other interesting sites in the Koytendag region, as well as attractions in and around Ashgabat, including Ahalteke horse stables, Carpet Museum and the ruins of the ancient Parthian city of Nissa, which is on the UNESCO World Heritage List.- ITINERARY
