Bukhara Restaurants

 

Many of Bukhara restaurants and cafés are located in the historic part of the city, near the famous architectural complex Lab-i Hauz - Bukhara’s major tourist attraction and cultural center. There is even a restaurant housed right in the madrasah of Nadir Divan-Beghi (dating from the 17th century), one of the edifices of the complex. Most of the restaurants offer traditional Uzbek food: Bukhara pilaf, shashlik kebabs, manti dumplings, large samsa pasties and others. Many of them add European and other dishes to their menus, including vegetarian and healthy diet ones, and entertain their guests with live music and national dance shows.

Restaurant Caravan

Address: 12, M. Ikbol str., Bukhara, Uzbekistan

Description and interior: The restaurant is a complex of two halls, booths, karaoke and children’s play rooms, and a yard with traditional large daybed-like platforms with low tables on them. The cuisine is Uzbek, European and Uighur. If ordered in advance, the restaurant arranges welcome drinks for tourist groups, as well as traditional Uzbek wedding reconstructions and halva and pilaf making shows. The interior is traditional Uzbek.

Restaurant Dolon

Address: 27, Hakikat str., Bukhara, Uzbekistan

Description and interior: Located between the famous historic domed shopping arcades, the restaurant offers an extensive menu of Uzbek and European cuisines. The restaurant has two halls and a terrace with a fascinating panoramic view of the historic part of the city. The interior is traditional Central Asian.

Restaurant Lyab-i Hauz

Address: B. Nakshbandi str., Bukhara, Uzbekistan

Description and interior: Located in the center of Bukhara, the restaurant complements the famous architectural complex Lyab-i Hauz dating from the 16th -17th centuries. The menu, Central Asian and European, is extensive and exquisite, and the service is excellent. The interior features local medieval sceneries and creates the unique historical atmosphere.

Restaurant Manzifa

Address: 6, Khudjarushnoy str., Bukhara, Uzbekistan

Description and interior: Located in the historic part of Bukhara, near the famous architectural complex Lab-i Hauz, the café has two halls and a terrace with a wonderful view of the 16th-century bathhouse and other heritage buildings. Minzifa building itself was built 150 years ago. The café offers a wide range of Central Asian and European dishes, including healthy diet and custom ones. The stuff speaks English. The interior is traditional Central Asian.

Cuisine: uzbek, european (including vegetarian dishes).

Recommended orders: pilaf.

Music: live classical (piano, violin), national dance shows (if ordered).

Restaurant Nadir Divan-Beghi

Address: Nadir Divan-Beghi Madrassah, Bukhara, Uzbekistan

Description and interior:The restaurant is housed in the historic madrasah Nadir Divan-Beghi (dating from the 17th century) - one of the edifices of Lyab-i Hauz architectural complex. Lyab-i Hauz is Bukhara’s major tourist attraction; it is where handicraftsmen, musicians and artists get together, and various cultural events are held. The location of the restaurant, its interior of a real medieval Central Asian madrasah with souvenir shops in hujra cells around, and its broad menu of Uzbek dishes, including traditional Central Asian sweets, make it a most enjoyable place to visit.

National guest house "Doston House"

Address: 5, K. Kalon str., Bukhara, Uzbekistan

Description and interior: The restaurant is located in the historic part of Bukhara, near the famous architectural complex Lab-i Hauz. It offers a wide variety of Uzbek dishes, including traditional pastry items, as well as Bukhara wines and most delicious local fruits and vegetables. Almost all the main course dishes are cooked on the open fire. There is also a tandir clay oven for samsa pasties and flatbreads in the yard. An outdoor eating area is also available. The building of the restaurant dates from the 19th century, so the outside appearance and interior is historic traditional Uzbek. The hall features wall niches, fine stucco carvings and traditional Bukhara murals of beautiful geometric designs.

Rustam’s Traditional House

Address: 10, Sarofon str., Bukhara, Uzbekistan

Description and interior: The house is located in the historic part of Bukhara. The hosts are very hospitable, friendly and educated people who will be happy to cook various Uzbek dishes for you and serve. The setting of a traditional Uzbek house and intrinsic Uzbek hospitality you will enjoy will certainly be an unforgettable experience. The hall the guests are received in was built as long ago as the second half of the 19th century, and it features a display of antique books as well as jewelry made by the host’s son.

"Silk Road Spices" Teahouse

Address: 5, Khalim Ibodov str., Bukhara, Uzbekistan

Description and interior: The teahouse, set up by the spice dealer Mirfayoz Ubaidov, offers a wide variety of most delicious herb teas. You can enjoy them either in a room of the teahouse or outdoors, in the yard where besides conventional tables and chairs stand traditional Uzbek daybed-like platforms with low tables on them to sit cross-legged or lie at, with thick kurpacha mattresses and pillows. The building of the teahouse is new, featuring traditional Uzbek architectural elements and decorations. There are rich national handmade tapestries on the walls; the furniture is covered with beautiful Central Asian carvings.
