Most frequently asked questions

1. How do I book services of high-altitude guide?
You may order to mountain guide’s service at preliminary correspondence process beforehand.

2. Can I expect any discounts?
Yes, you can. All questions about possible discount should be considered in individual way at preliminary correspondence process beforehand.

3. How do I book services of high-altitude porters?
You may decide on whether or not you use porters either beforehand. The higher the altitude, the higher the price (look into the price list for extra services). For your information, between Base Camp and Camp 1 horses regularly carry loads. You can save your energy by leaving part of your luggage with Superintendent to organise transfer of your luggage to Camp 1 (4,400 m). The agreement with Superintendent should be reached as latest an hour before departure.
Warning! Avoid direct dealing with local Kyrgyz people (porters or donkey-men) who do not work for our company as in this case we do not take any responsibility for your luggage.

4. What insurance cover limit do you suggest?
Insurance is prerequisite - for that extreme case You never want to think over about. But common sense gives a prompt that You have to care about having it in order to feel being secured at ascending because service of rescue team and transport cost quite expensive. So, Your individual insurance policy has to be drawn on not less then 15 000 $ (USA), besides, You have to do that being at Your Motherland - before You arrival in start point of expedition.

5. What are minimal technical qualification requirements for climbing Lenin Peak?
Lenin Peak is not that technically difficult summit to climb. Still you should have certain climbing experience. For instance, you should be able to move on snow-covered and ice-covered slopes of different steepness, use crampons and be knowledgeable of safety rules in the mountains. In case you do not have any previous climbing experience we suggest that you book services of our mountain guide. Essential is your sound physical sporting conditions and good acclimatization (especially if you don’t have any previous high-altitude ascent experience). Ascending along the standard route does not require any complex technique but you should always take into account a risk of possible quick change of weather and the high-altitude environment. So use your caution and common sense. We suggest “by step” acclimatization that means having a serious of 2-3 interim climbing up and down the route with every next climb reaching higher altitude. Your first climb may be very difficult for you (heavy headache, poor or no appetite, lack of air etc.). Do not forget to see our doctor before starting the climb!

6. What about meals?
You will be provided with 3-time-a-day full meals at the Base Camp and the Camp 1. But at Camp 2, Camp 3 and Camp 4 you will have to organise your own meals. So, highly suggested that you bring your high-altitude foodstuff with you (from country of your original departure) as you will never find any neither in Tashkent, nor in Bishkek or Osh. If you opt for our full package of services then at the Base Camp (3,600 m) you are entitled to a special service - take any product available at the BC storage room that you feel you may use on your ascending such as fresh fruits and vegetables, packet soups, canned food, macaroni, cheese, sausage, butter, sugar, tea, coffee, dried fruits, biscuits, wafers, sweets etc. But if you are accustomed to a special kind of food then please bring your own stuff.

7. What kind of climbing gear do we need?
In order to succeed in ascending to the Lenin Peak we would suggest that your high-quality reliable climbing gear would include (but not limited to) as follows: a high-altitude tent, a rug/sleeping pad, a down sleeping-bag (capable of withstanding a frost down to -10C -20C), a rucksack (60-100 litre big), a pair of high-altitude mountain plastic double boots, a pair of tracking boots/shoes, high-altitude sun glasses (make sure you have a spare one!), a tube of UV skin protection cream (factor 25 and higher), a lipstick, a face-protecting mask, a personal high-altitude first-aid kit, a pair of telescopic ski poles, an ice-axe, crampons, a helmet, a basic rope (8-11 mm diameter, 20-30m long), safety system (a “cradle”), “jumar”, carabiners (3-5 pieces), ice- screws (2 pieces), a safety halyard (diameter 4-5 mm, 2-3 m long), a head- or flash-light, a down jacket and pants, warm breeches, warm mittens, gloves, a warm hat, a cap, a rainproof costume, woollen socks (2-3 pairs), warm sweater or jacket.

8. Which time is best for successful ascending?
Best time for successful ascending to the Lenin Peak is from beginning of July to second half of August as the weather then is more or less stable and predictable. For example, the season’2006 has shown perfect weather - clear, warm and nearly no wind, while the season’2007 was quite rich in snowfalls as it is usually the case.

At Camps of the Lenin Peak traditionally USD, EUR, Russian Roubles and Kyrgyz Soms are used. You can change your hard currency into local currency in Osh.

10. How do I pay for my tour?
You may opt between 3 ways of payment:
- By bank transfer;
- By cash upon your arrival;
- Fifty-fifty.

11. How much money should I pay for every single extra day in addition to the programme?
The price of the program provides our service during 21 days in total. You spend at mountains 16 days from 21 days. And You spend 4 days from those 16 days at Camp 1 according our standard program, rest 12 day are going to be spent by You at Base Camp, Camp 2,3 and on the summit. In case it’s going on this way then You shouldn’t think about some additional payment. But in case You spend more then 4 days at Camp 1 then of course You are not going to be driven away, but You will have to pay per 30 $ for every additional day for every single person. What concerning Base Camp - in case You stay at mountains more then 16 total days provided by the program then You will have to pay per 15 $ for every additional day for every single person (and You can stay as much as You want). That’s all arithmetic.
